How to Build Brand Awareness through Social Media

A world without social media is almost impossible to imagine these days. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc. are not only about making friends and being part of communities anymore, but they are also about increasing web traffic, conversion rates, search engine rankings and revenues; in fact they are at the forefront of every marketing strategy. Any marketing campaign without the involvement of social media will miss out on a lot of potential opportunities and revenue.

Hence it goes without saying that social media is the ultimate tool for building brand awareness. It is also the most effective and cost-effective platform too, especially compared to other advertising media such as TV media, radio media or print media. However as easy as it is to become a member of one of these social media sites, conducting a brand awareness campaign through them is perhaps the most time and effort consuming tasks, although if you incorporate the ideal methods mentioned below, you will be able to reap the benefits within a short period of time.

Be where your target market is

While trying to maintain profiles on each and every social media networking site would be disadvantageous to you because it would drain your time, resources and efforts, finding the correct social media channel is important. A target audience may differ according to gender, age, location, occupation, interests etc. Likewise people’s preferences over social media sites may differ according to similar factors, through which you may be able to find the ideal platform to launch your campaign. You can conduct research as to which channel most of your potential followers would be using through keyword or key phrase research, analytical research of your competitors and so on.

Use an effective content marketing strategy

In all social media forums, content matters the most. An effective content marketing strategy will increase your followers or fans while earning widespread reputation for your brand.

  • Write quality, original and entertaining content.
  • Keep your message concise and precise.
  • Optimize content for search engines by infusing texts with keywords.
  • Write for your target audience; their interests, needs, demands, concerns etc.

If you are able to impress your followers with such unique content, they will not hesitate to share it among their own friends, colleagues and family. This will automatically bring more exposure and publicity to your brand.

Increase fan engagement with your social media

Having your followers taking an action after seeing your post (i.e. liking, commenting on or sharing it) is much more important than merely increasing the number of them. Their active engagement can contribute vastly to the expansion of your brand’s reputation.

  • Host quizzes or Q&A sessions, monthly if not weekly.
  • Give away free gifts or rewards to the most attentive fan of the month.
  • Publish shareable content.
  • Give them a chance to express their own requests.
  • Publish content when your audience is online, which is when they are not at work, driving to or from work, or sleeping.
  • Publish quality content which would win their attention and appreciation.

Such strategies will lead your fans to be more engaged which will automatically spread the word about your brand. When they share, like, comment on or retweet your post, it will be visible to their friends who will unmistakably check your page out.

Make use of paid social media advertising

If you want to quicken the pace of your social media campaign, it is always best to choose paid advertisements which usually appear on the timelines of your target market. Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter offer their users to pay for their advertisements to be displayed on the accounts of their target audience which will increase the potential conversions rates.

Use hashtags

Incorporating a popular and relevant hashtags in your status update can increase the number of your potential customers. While you get to express your own opinion on a topic that has earned the interest of a lot of like minded people, you have the chance to get their attention to your own opinion, hence to your own brand.

Social media can be the sharpest tool you can use on your brand awareness campaign, and if you do it right you will be able to beat your competitor right out of the game!
